Umasda
We teach a system of Martial Arts that is developed from concepts, principles, and philosophy derived from three main Styles of Martial Arts. Borrowing from one of our parent Schools, the International Karate Connection Association (IKCA), Sr. Grand Master Chuck Sullivan has codified the organization of School, System, Style, and Art for us: Art - Karate, Aikido, Jujitsu, Judo, Kendo, etc. Style - National in origin: American, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Okinawan, etc. System - what branch of the aforementioned art: Shotokan, Kenpo, Goju-Ryu, Northern Kung Fu, etc. School - The name of the school (or parent school) you study under. So...from the top, our art would most closely be aligned as follows: Art - Karate Style - American System - Kenpo (with various concepts and principles from other systems integrated) School - United Martial Arts Self Defense Academy (UMASDA, or UMA for short) We use techniques, concepts, and principles derived from the schools listed on our Lineage page with the application of logic and common sense to guide our journey through the Arts. While we believe strongly in what we study, every UMASDA stylist recognizes that there is no definitive "best" system and we constantly strive for improvement in ourselves and ways to help make our system stronger. Our school teaches via a strict adherence to the UMASDA Bylaws, to which every UMASDA stylist is held, with Zero Exceptions, including the UMASDA Founder(s). We are an American style of Martial Arts; no UMASDA member will ever be asked nor required to bow before a foreign flag.
