Rise and Dream is a documentary film about 13 teenagers who live in poverty in the Philippines and are invited to be the headlining act at a concert on the edge of a jungle in Mindanao. Filipino folk musicians come to Zamboanga to teach the kids music on traditional instruments. The perseverance of the teens as they prepare for the concert is inspirational, but the triumph of the teens and their families in their everyday lives invites us to a new understanding of people living in poverty. The film team included Kansas City-based composer, songwriter Barclay Martin and Editor Bernadine Colish.
