United Way of Mesa County
Founded in 1959 in Grand Junction, Colorado, United Way of Mesa County (UWMC) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that raises money from the community to fund programs that address community concerns. UWMC is one of more than 1,300 community-based United Way organizations. Each is independent, separately incorporated, and governed by local volunteers. Our work is focused on these building blocks for a good life: Education - Supporting parents and early childhood development Income - Promoting financial stability and independence Health - Improving people's physical and mental health UWMC brings our community together to focus on its most important needs while building partnerships, forging consensus and leveraging resources to make a measurable difference. We provide leadership and resources that unite people in building a strong and compassionate community that responds to human needs. We foster cooperation among community agencies, business and governmental sectors in an effort to encourage a balanced network of services for people in our community. Throughout the year, UWMC monitors funded programs to make sure outcomes are achieved. We also provide on-going technical assistance to nonprofits, and help fund Western Colorado 2-1-1, an information and referral resource where people can both get and give help. And to top it off, UWMC makes it easy for everyone to get involved.
