United Way of Winnipeg

United Way Winnipeg is an autonomous, non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees comprising no fewer than 24 members chosen from the community. The organization builds upon a long history of bringing together diverse partners at the local level to initiate action on community issues. United Way Winnipeg is not sectarian or political. United Way Winnipeg is a member of the United Way/Centraide Canada. The national organization works with, and for, local United Ways, providing strategic direction and creating connections for sharing information and resources. Next to governments, the Canadian family of United Ways is the largest funder of the voluntary sector and social services in the country. We are also a member of United Way Worldwide. United Way Winnipeg raises funds in the community in support of an essential network of agencies and programs. This campaign is volunteer-driven, led by a Campaign Cabinet, a volunteer Campaign Chair, and supported by a vast network of community leaders. All donations raised through the Annual Campaign go directly into the community through agencies and programs. Fundraising and administrative costs are offset through a provincial grant, special events, and investment income. In 1965, the first year of operation, United Way of Winnipeg raised $2.8 M in support of 50 agencies. In 2015, Winnipeggers raised $20.4 M supporting more than 100 agencies. United Way Winnipeg operates out of 580 Main Street, centrally located in Winnipeg's downtown. Volunteers drive the organization, engaged in every aspect of operations and are fundamental to our success. Volunteers not only lead fundraising initiatives, they direct the allocation of funds, play a central role in various United Way of Winnipeg-led programs, and provide strategic advice on how best to meet the needs of the community. Over 5,000 individuals volunteer in some capacity with United Way of Winnipeg.
