University of Poitiers
Founded in 1431 by Pope Eugene IV, then confirmed by the letters patent of King Charles VII, the University of Poitiers has from the outset five faculties: theology, canon law, civil law, medicine and arts. From the sixteenth century, the University of Poitiers radiates on the cultural life of the city. at that time, it is cited as the second university of France, after Paris; 4,000 students attend university, some of which will become famous: Joachim du Bellay, Guez Balzac, Francois Rabelais, Rene Descartes, Francis Bacon, Sciola of St. Martha . The University of Poitiers currently gathers more than 27,000 students and employs more than 3,000 people: Teachers and Research Teachers / Librarians, Engineers, Administrators, Technicians, Workers, Service and Health (BIATSS) / Temporary Teaching Assistants and Research Staff (ATER) / Readers / Language Masters / PhD / Contract Contractuals and Individual Contractors.
