Upholstery Designs began life in Hull in 1976 when Tony and Tricia Blowman established their furniture upholstering business in a workshop Empringham Street, off Hedon Road. A time-served upholsterer by trade, Tony hand made suites for customers and the company's reputation for superb quality and service spread rapidly. Increasingly large shop units followed, building an ever-larger customer base with each move, and 26 years ago Upholstery Designs settled into its present showroom in Spring Bank West. Upholstery Designs now supplies a wide range of high-quality furniture, hand-picked from selected manufacturers in Europe, as well as a bespoke service to ensure each piece meets the customer's individual requirements. The Blowmans have been joined in the business by their son Ian and a team of skilled and trained sales, delivery and service staff. A large-scale showroom expansion was the perfect time to expand the range of furniture, adding contemporary and chic to the traditional, classic elegance for which the company has become known. Most importantly of all, repeat custom and personal recommendation still make up the bulk of the company's business.
