USS Fremont

These web pages have been designed for the enjoyment of all who served on board USS Fremont APA-44. I dedicate this site to the memory of the USS Fremont sailors and embarked troops who gave their lives in the service of their country. Sadly, SA H.W. Nesbit, USN and LCPL R.F. Cook, USMC were lost at sea during a naval exercise in January, 1960. The "Plan Of the Day" button below will display the POD for 28 January 1960. Read about a not so typical day aboard the USS Fremont over 40 years ago. Sadly, Robert "Bos'n Bob" Allen one of the USS Fremont Reunion's greatest supporters and a co-founder of the reunion passed away 11 March 2016. Personally, as the creator of this web site, I would like to make this personal observation. I started this site with only a postcard picture of the the USS Fremont and a lot of great memories of my time aboard her. The site was one small page when Bos'n Bob called me and thanked me for starting the Fremont site. He sent me a USS Fremont ballcap and pages and pages of historical information outlining the yearly history of the ship. This information was the basis for the history section. He asked me to add information about the reunion and the upcoming date which I was happy to do. I strarted attending the reunions and watched this web site grow to what it is today.
