Victorian Amateur Football Association
The VAFA strives to provide an environment that is safe and delivers a rewarding experience for all participants, umpires, supporters and spectators. We find that such conduct, to which the club has admitted, is not compatible with: • these aims of this Association; • its responsibilities to its own members, supporters and juniors; or • the spirit of the contest itself. At the same time, we recognise that the Prahran club's behaviour was not illegal, but inappropriate and embarrassing. As such, under Article 36, the VAFA has tonight charged Prahran with conduct unbecoming. After a hearing, the Integrity sub-Committee has determined that the following actions will be taken: • A senior official from the Prahran Amateur Football Club will attend each Club XVIII game until the end of season 2009; • The team involved in this conduct will attend a Respect and Responsibility Progam conducted by AFL Victoria; • The Prahran Amateur Football Club is fined $5000, of which $1000 is payable within 7 days and the balance suspended until the conclusion of season 2010, conditional on the good behaviour of the club. The club has also been put on notice that further failure to uphold the values of the VAFA could, in future, not only result in forfeiture of that bond, but possible expulsion from our Association. The VAFA would welcome a greater interest from the media in our fine competition, the largest in Australia, where each week the football and umpiring are of a very high standard and the crowd behavior encourages the attendance of women and children.
