Valley Cooperative Association
Simply stated, VCA is a bakery ingredient cooperative owned by its members. Annual operating profits are distributed to our member owners/stockholders. Why was VCA formed? VCA was formed in 1949 by a group of retail bakers who wanted a more efficient way to purchase ingredients and supplies during difficult economic times. Who are the current member owners/stockholders? Currently, our member owners of the cooperative are owners/customers from various businesses in the baking and foodservice industry within the state of Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. They are primarily retail bakeries, supermarkets, wholesalers, restaurants, and institutional operations. Who can become a member owner/stockholder? Membership and stock ownership is restricted to active customers of the organization who are in good credit standing and can benefit from the services and profits that the cooperative returns. Do I have to own stock in the cooperative to do business with VCA? No. Anyone who can use our services or products is welcome to be a customer. What does it cost to purchase stock in the cooperative? There is a one-time common stock purchase of $500 (five $100 shares) to become an active member/stockholder.
