Vedanta Resources
Vedanta Resources, through its subsidiaries, holds copper, zinc and aluminum operations in India, Zambia and Australia. In India, it holds copper producer Sterlite Industries which produces zinc and aluminum through majority stakes in Hindustan Zinc and Bharat Aluminum Company (Balco). In addition, it owns a controlling stake in India's largest private-sector iron ore producer, Sesa Goa. Vedanta acquired the zinc assets of Anglo American PLC in 2011, making it the world's largest zinc and lead producer. That year it also moved into oil and gas by acquiring a 59% stake in Cairn India. Subsequently, Vedanta Resources settled down to simplify its group structure and continue its $2.4 billion invested in organic growth projects. In 2012, the company's integrated Cairn India - Rajasthan unit reached production of 175,000 barrels of oil per day, with a potential capacity of 300,000 barrels of oil per day.
