Wand TV

WAND-TV is the number one local news source in Central Illinois providing news from the strongest and most experienced journalism team. We are located in Decatur, Illinois. Our DMA covers 21 counties (Cass, Champaign, Christian, Coles, Cumberland, De Witt, Douglas, Edgar, Effingham, Ford, Iroquois, Logan, Macon, Menard, Morgan, Moultrie, Piatt, Sangamon, Shelby, Vermilion, Warren Co, IN). Reporters cover over 11,800 square miles in reporting news from our DMA. This is 21% of the land mass of the entire state of Illinois. The farthest city is 134 miles one-way (Beaverville in Iroquois County). Located in a hyphenated market, WAND-TV is the only station to cover the entire market without relying on a second signal. Our signal reaches 389,000 households and we are carried on cable companies throughout our DMA. We hit the air on August 16, 1953 as WTVP, the first television station in Central Illinois and one of the original 19 ABC affiliates. Our call letters changed in 1966 to WAND when purchased by LIN Broadcasting. On September 5, 2005 WAND switched from ABC to NBC. In November 2007 Block Communications purchased the remaining 33% of WAND from LIN Television bringing WAND into the Block television family of WDRB-TV, WLIO-TV, and KTRV-TV. Our station offers weather radar, alerts, story submission and other features that make it easy to get news on the go.
