Western Autotroph
Currently, Western Autotroph Company is offering two new technologies, NitriMORE and NitriMAX, for reducing the size of aerobic basins in biological nutrient removal (BNR) systems. For existing BNR systems, the "freed up" aerobic basin can be repurposed for future upgrades or increasing the flow rate through the treatment train. The reduction in the size of the aerobic basin necessary for complete nitrification represents new design options and substantial capital cost savings. NitriMORE can reduce aeration and O&M costs of membrane bioreactor (MBR) BNR systems by reducing the MLSS. A third technology, NitriLESS, allows conventional activated sludge systems designed for secondary treatment to operate at longer solids residence times (SRT) without risk of nitrification. With the longer SRT, lower flow rates of waste activated sludge to the on-site anaerobic digester can free up capacity for outside wastes and increased tipping fee revenue. NitriLESS may also be used in MBR BNR systems used in Water Reuse. Maintain a long SRT without nitrification, which accounts for 50-65% of the process aeration costs. In addition to energy cost savings, significant capital cost savings are available for freed up basin capacity (anoxic zone), blower capacity, and diffusers.
