Western Avenue Studios

Western Avenue Studios and Western Avenue Lofts form the largest artist community of our kind on the East Coast, if not the country. Starting with 31 studios and 45 artists on one floor of one building in 2005 we have grown to 245 studios offering work space to more than 280 artists and 50 live/work lofts offering 70 artists the opportunity to live and work in a nurturing and supportive environment. Since opening day, Western Avenue Studios has become an integral part of the cultural life of the city of Lowell. In addition to participating in the annual citywide Lowell Open Studios and holding monthly First Saturday Open Studios, Western Avenue Studios artists partner with organizations throughout the area. In 2009 Western Avenue welcomed the Miracle Providers NorthEast who support children infected or affected by HIV/AIDS through performance based fundraising, in 2013 the Miracle Providers opened the Onyx Room, a 4,000 sf event space which provides a much needed venue for community groups. The Western Avenue Studios Artist Association represents many of the artists at Western Avenue Studios. The organization provides outreach and develops partnerships with other cultural institutions in the city. The artists at Western Avenue Studios are deeply grateful to BPV Lowell, LLC, developer of Western Avenue Studios. Without Karl and Becky, our dream of an affordable artist work space would not be a reality.
