WELEW Tribal School

WELEW Tribal School

Tribal School on the Saanich Peninsula north of Victoria, BC (Canada) serves the Saanich People on four reserves and their surrounding communities. Its school board is dedicated to the preservation of the history of the Saanich and their language. With the development of the written SENCOTEN language in 1978 following years of regulations on the Saanich people and forced assimilation into the western Canadian education system, The WSANEC School Board today strives to preserve their Saanich heritage and pass down the knowledge of their history and culture to their children.
