Knights of Columbus Council 15029 of West Visayas State University had earned the distinction of Triple Star Council, for the 2013-2014 fraternal years. The organization's headquarters, located in New Haven, Connecticut, made announcement. The award recognizes overall excellence in the areas of membership recruitment (reaching 300% of quota, thereby making it a "Triple Star") and retention, promotion of the fraternal insurance program and sponsorship of service oriented activities. The award was presented to the membership by Bro. Rudy Sorongon, Visayas State Deputy during the District Deputy Mid-Year Conference held on November 29-30, 2014 in Boracay, Philippines. Furthermore, Dr. Bobby D. Gerardo, the District Deputy of V-139, likewise received the "Star District Award" for the Columbian Year 2013-2014. This distinction is given to District Deputies that performed well in the membership and other community related activities of the Knights of Columbus. Dr. Gerardo supervises the College Councils in Iloilo City namely, WVSU, WVCST, UPV, JBLMFU-Molo, and JBLMFU-Arevalo. In announcing the local winner of the Star Council Award, Carl A. Anderson, Chief Executive Officer of the organization, said, "Please accept my sincere congratulation upon attaining this prestigious award. Your dedication to the order is seen in the high standard of excellence you have achieved. At the same time, I encourage you to carry forward this enthusiasm, to meet the challenges that will face the Knights of Columbus in the year ahead. May this award be a reminder and an inspiration to the members of your council to continue to promote the ideals of Columbianism for the good of the Church, you Community and the other." "Receiving the Triple Star Council Award is quite an honor for us. We're extremely proud of this accomplishment," proclaimed Bro. Cyreneo Dofitas, Jr., Grand Knight of WVSU KofC Council. The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic lay organization. It provides members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Church, their Communities, Families and Young People. With more than 1.8 million members in over 15,000 councils around the world, the Knights of Columbus annually donated more than $170 million and 70 million hours of services to charitable causes.
