Yknet
YKNet was co-founded by Northwestel and the non-profit organization called Yukon Net Operating Society in 1995, which has received support or was founded by many Yukoner's, including Rick Steele, Richard Lawrence, Steve Rose, Stephen Horn, Meg Horn, Rod Carty, Tim Kinvig, Norm Easton, Duane Esler, and many others. YKNet was founded to achieve the mission statement of the Yukon Net Operating Society, which YKNet hence forth adopted. In Many communities, YKNet was the first exposure to internet Yukon citizens had. Under the Management of Rick Steele, during the latter part of the 1990's, YKNet entered into the Connect Yukon Agreement with YTG and Northwestel, further advancing the cause of bringing internet to Yukoners. In 2001, YKNet achieved financial independence from Northwestel, and in the following year introduced it's own DSL services into the Whitehorse area. In 2004, in order to gain further financial stability and a larger customer base, the companies of YKNet and Polar Information Services (Polaris, Polaris Remote) partnered where YKNet provides all residental ISP services and Polaris provides all corporate and commercial ISP services. TO this day, remain one of the largest companies in the IT industry of the Yukon.
