In the workplace there are three stakeholders namely The State (Government), the employer and the employee. It is therefore essential that each of these stakeholders is aware of the role and responsibilities of the others to have harmony in the workplace as required by the Industrial Relations Act 2000. There can be no work in the absence of people. Once there are people in an organization they need to be managed. In the workplace management of people is termed Human Resources Management. For effective Human Resources Management, employees must know what their responsibilities are, and how they should behave when they have complaints and how to follow structures (policies) in place that guide them. Through the use of these structures, employees and employers know how to relate with each other. In order that rights of the employees and employers are observed government enacts labour laws to prevent exploitation of employees by employers and production not to be unnecessarily disrupted. Stakeholders should know what to do and what not to do in terms of the laws of the country. It is therefore essential that stakeholders are compliant with workplace laws such as the Employment Act, Industrial Relations Act, Occupational Safety and Health Act and so on.
