Koala Has Been Acquired by Anysphere, Makers of Cursor

Today we can share what we hinted at a few months back: Koala has been acquired by Anysphere, makers of Cursor.

We thought we’d take a moment to explain how we got here, and what we’ll be focusing on in our new roles!

How we got here

Four years ago, my co-founders and I were deep in solving enterprise data problems at Segment. Even from our vantage point in engineering, it was easy to see that lack of contextual information wasn’t just a data team problem—it was a GTM problem. In 2021, we built Koala to help. Our mission was to help every seller move faster with the right data, at the right time.

For the next few years, I’d like to think our engineering expertise kept us ahead—we shipped new features quickly. But in 2024, when demand for AI in GTM peaked, we knew we needed more. We adopted Cursor to help us build Koala’s new AI features even faster.

And wow, did it work.

Cursor helped us write better code faster, but it was also a true delight to work with. Soon enough, the joy we felt for how we were building began to overshadow the joy we felt for what we were building.

In June, after ensuring Koala customers found a good home, we committed to a new mission—to help every developer find that same magic in coding with AI. We joined Cursor to bring that feeling to the enterprise.

Our Enterprise Roots

Cursor has already seen exceptional traction at the enterprise. From legacy powerhouses like Adobe and PWC, to hyper growth scale-ups like Open AI and Ramp—64% of the Fortune 500 and more than 50,000+ enterprise engineering teams use Cursor.

But winning over developers is just the first step. We know scaling adoption means building for the CIO as well as the IC, and pairing product growth with a deliberate go-to-market motion.

We know this, because we’ve been here before.

At Dropbox, I focused on maturing the company’s security, support, and services teams, turning a beloved self-service product into an enterprise powerhouse. At Segment, Matt, Netto, and I invested deeply in security and collaboration features to grow Segment from a popular developer API into the backbone of enterprise customer data infrastructure.

In both cases, maintaining developer love was a non-negotiable. And we’re excited to bring that same ethos to the enterprise GTM motion at Cursor.

Why Now

The early enterprise success Cursor has seen is a clear indication that they aren’t pulling the market—it’s pulling them. AI is no longer just a playground for early adopters; it’s being written into enterprise roadmaps. And teams aren’t just experimenting with Cursor—they’re using it to build critical systems. Security, reliability, and scalability are second to none priorities for Cursor.

Koala isn’t the first investment Cursor has made with the enterprise in mind. In addition to building robust support and services teams, and expanding security engineering, Cursor also recently acquired Resourcely, a platform for preventing infrastructure misconfiguration.

By joining the team at this stage, we hope to build on these recent investments to further accelerate what would have taken several years:

  • Enterprise Readiness: Security, compliance, fine-grained permissions, audit trails—the things required for wall-to-wall implementation.
  • GTM Strategy: Aligning product growth with enterprise sales and success motions, speaking the language of CTOs, CISOs, and procurement.
  • Engineering Leadership: Bringing operational rigor to scale the platform safely and predictably as adoption grows.

The Road Ahead

For us, this is a continuation of the work we’ve always cared about: helping builders move faster. Cursor has already made this a reality for millions of engineers. Now we get to ensure that speed is delivered with confidence—in enterprise-grade security, reliability, and trust.
